Coax & Legacy: Prior to the EIA/TIA-568 cabling standard (the basis for all worldwide campus and building cabling in the 1990s), coaxial cable systems were used as the base for transmitting data. Starting with Ethernet, then to IBM 3270, AS400 and others. There is still a large installed base of coax systems that need cable and components because of adds, moves and changes.
